Symptoms and causes of Lymphoma

Lymphoma is the malignant growth of certain white blood cells, which is called a lymphocyte. Their location is in the lymphatic system. In short, it is the type of cancer that comes from the lymphatic system.

It normally occurs in the lymph nodes, although it can also occur in other organs that are part of the lymphatic system, such as the spleen or bone marrow. In any case, a lymphoma can manifest outside the lymphatic system, because lymphocytes circulate through the body, although it is not as common.

People need to know that there are 2 types of lymphoma: Hodking and non-Hodking. These 2 types are classified according to lymphocyte abnormality:

  • The Hodking have in their composition a type of lymphocyte which is called “Reed-Sternberg”. This cell becomes abnormal in its shape. The role of abnormal cells is to reproduce and form a mass of tissue, forming, in turn, a tumor. In most cases they appear between the ages of 15-35, mostly affecting men. It was most common in upper-class families in Western countries.

  • Non-Hodking lymphoma, this name is given to the rest of the lymphomas. There are many types of non-Hodking lymphoma, more than 30, and they are all very different from each other.

In this article, we will know some symptoms and causes of lymphoma.

     The symptoms are as follows:

  • The typical one is located in the large lymph nodes, causing us pain. In the case of the lymph nodes in the axis, neck, and groin, because they are palpable, it is obvious if there is an enlargement.

  • However, it should be borne in mind that enlarged nodes are not always related to lymphoma, there are several causes that occur.

  • In addition to these, there are other symptoms. These are fever, abnormal weight loss, or itching in the body.

The causes of lymphoma are as follows:

  • People who suffer from a weak immune system will have a higher risk of developing this disease. Also, people taking immunosuppressive drugs.

  • Another risk factor, according to the latest scientific studies, is infection with some viruses or bacteria, as in the case of Epstein-Barr virus or HIV.

  • People need to be aware that pesticides in the air can cause lymphoma because they cause a weakened immune system in some people.
